Sign the Petition to Help Save Historic Forest Avenue

Forest Avenue is the heart of our city’s iconic downtown. Named after the forest of Eucalyptus planted by early homesteaders, Forest Avenue offers a long view all the way from Coast Highway to City Hall framed by rows of trees. Providing convenient parking, it has for over 100 years been a prime place for strolling, dining, and experiencing Laguna creativity in small shops and restaurants.

As much as we have enjoyed eating outdoors on the temporary promenade, the City’s years-long effort to permanently close lower Forest Avenue has been plagued by controversy, failed designs and public opposition.

Yet on June 11, the Council will be holding a meeting to discuss final plans to tear up the street and sidewalks and build a permanent promenade - despite having no budget, no viable cost estimates, possible flood risks, and without mitigating the permanent loss of convenient parking.

The Council has refused to explore other alternatives. Our city and historic Forest Avenue deserve better. Please sign our petition and urge the Council to reject the plan at their June 11 at 4:30 p.m. meeting.

Sign The Petition - Preserve Forest Avenue

Why This Matters

Forest Avenue is the heart of our city’s iconic downtown.

Current plans call into question many issues of concern -  find out how these issues will impact Forest Avenue and Laguna Beach forever.

Historic Character

The project forever alters the historic character of the traditional entry to our downtown.

Financial Uncertainty

The City has no budget or viable estimates for how much the demolition of the existing street and new construction will cost, how long it will take, and the impact it will have on businesses – some may go bankrupt.

Public Drinking

The project would open all of lower Forest Avenue to public drinking.

Flood Concerns

Forest Avenue is within a floodway; the City still doesn’t know if the project is even feasible because it has failed to prepare a hydrology study.

Business Impact

The elimination of vehicular access and loss of all 48 parking spaces on lower Forest Avenue have already devastated many retail businesses.
